Sun and vitamin in your life. This is what the new 2024 winter program of the University of the Third Age (UTA) Victoriaville branch and its region offers you.

What could be nicer than staying active in the cold season: give yourself a break after hiking or skiing to keep your head awake, continue learning and share your experiences and passions with other people.

The winter program 2024

In Victoriaville, two courses are on the program for the session starting January 31, 2024: The big issues of penal and penal policy with Daniel Richard-Pelchat, who will talk to us about these issues that are omnipresent in the news, the important ethical and moral ones Topics raise debates; Quebec, from time to time with Gaëtan St-Arnaud, who will introduce us to the highlights of Quebec’s history: the natives, the fur trade, the rural priest, etc.

A two-part conference on Démocratie.com with Noémie Verhoef, whose presentation will focus on the specific issues of socio-digital democracies. An “Arts and Culture” block with two presentations on Quebec comics, their origins to the present day with Michel Viau and introduction to rock art: overview of the different traditions around the globe with Adelphine Bonneau.

And finally two unified conferences: 1914-1918: Four years of technological, scientific and medical development with Pierre Bernard, who will show us how such a murderous war changed medicine, hygiene practices at the front, etc., as well as pesticides and ethical agronomy research in Quebec with Louis Robert, who will explain to us how researchers and consultants must work closely together, especially to denounce situations in which disruption occurs.

In Plessisville, in two blocks of two conferences, the first block focusing on “Health” will present pain in the elderly with Guillaume Léonard, who will address the problem of chronic pain and the various tools for its assessment and relief. and Discover the Microbiota with Isabelle Laforest-Lapointe, who takes us into the world of microorganisms, the role of microbes in the development of the immune system in early life, etc.

The second block, “History and Legend,” focuses on the search for Atlantis with André Pelchat, who will talk to us about this continent that has been forgotten for centuries: is it a myth or a reality? And what does science say about it? And Frontenac, this great unknown with Roger Barrette, who will introduce us to a colorful personality at the helm of New France for almost 20 years.

Inscriptions

Online activities

In addition to the courses and conferences offered in person, the University of the Third Age at the University of Sherbrooke will offer online activities in winter 2024. The program will be available on the UTA website in December 2023. The registration deadline for online activities will be January 15, 2024. Remember that there are no prerequisites for registering for activities and there are no assignments or exams in courses and conferences. Just the joy of learning! Quite easy. These activities are always available to ages 50 and older and take place at the Victoriaville and Plessisville libraries.
