A father and his 18-year-old son were swept away by the treacherous waters of the Rio Grande in the town of Piedras Negras, in Mexico’s Coahuila state, which borders the United States.
The father’s body was found lifeless and identified by his relatives; The young man has not yet been found.
A close relative living in the United States through the Todos Somos Placetas group has reached out to the Cuban community for help:
“Dear friends, I share this photo of Luis Miguel, my nephew, who was swept away by the currents of the Rio Grande on Thursday, March 17, in Piedras Negras, Mexico.
We found my brother’s body who was with him, but not the child’s yet.
God only knows the trouble I am trying to share this photo, but we are desperate and already resorting to the networks.
Please if any Cuban in Texas hears the news and sees this boy now he has long hair with no beard and mustache just like the photo.
If you see him alive, remember his name Luis Miguel González, he might be traumatized. On the other hand, if anyone sees him deceased, for God’s sake please let us know. Thank you on behalf of our entire family. Signature: Bárbara Pérez, direct relatives of the young man”
It is not the first time that tragedies like this have happened, on March 9th a Cuban was devastated when, together with his wife and young son, only 4 years old, the strong current of the Rio Grande in their Country were caught trying to cross it and killed, the wife and sick little son who made the perilous journey with the intention of having the minor treated for a brain tumor in the United States.
