Another state corporation has received a reprimand from the Commissioner of Official Languages following a series of complaints, particularly regarding English-only content on its website and social media.
The Canadian Air Traffic Safety Administration (CATSA), which is responsible in particular for passenger screening at airports, has published content that “was not always offered in both official languages or in French and English with the same quality,” the commissioner said in a recent investigation report.
This was particularly the case with the official CATSA application in the Apple Store, which only bore its English name – Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA).
On the other hand, in 2021 CATSA published job offers only in English on its LinkedIn account, the premier professional networking platform.
In addition, the Commissioner noted that the Crown Corporation home page automatically led to the English website. By selecting the French version, internet users were redirected to an error page. The problem has now been resolved, assured CATSA.
A total of seven complaints submitted to the Commissioner by different complainants between December 29, 2020 and February 25, 2021 were substantiated.
Commissioner Théberge called on the federal organization to “develop and implement measures to ensure that all communications published on its digital media platforms, including its website and social media accounts, are transmitted in both official languages simultaneously and are of equal quality in French. ‘ and in English.
