If you missed the spectacle offered to you in certain regions on the night of Sunday to Monday, know that on Tuesday there is a new opportunity to see the Northern Lights.
In summary:
The Northern Lights were visible early Tuesday evening;
The ideal location is western Quebec;
Autumn is the season to see them.
Early evening
This Tuesday the conditions for the Northern Lights remain favorable. The KP index will actually be at 5.67 at the start of the evening. The ideal time to try to see them is therefore after sunset.
Western Quebec
Now that we know the ideal time to observe the phenomenon, what about the location? Unfortunately, since it will be snowing and raining across most of the province on Tuesday, not all areas will see it. Current forecasts suggest western Quebec will be the most spoiled as skies are expected to be clear. If you live near the Ontario border areas or in the towns of Rouyn-Noranda and Matagami, you may be able to see them.
The ideal conditions
Remember that to see the Northern Lights you need to go north, adjust your eyes to the darkness and move away from urban centers. “Astronomical winter is the best time to observe the northern lights. We have more darkness than in summer, so more time to see it,” explains Alexandra Giroux, meteorologist.
