“I think it makes your friends and those around you who have scooters very aware that you have to be careful, watch all the accidents that can happen around them,” laments Léa, 20, a close friend of Jasmine Beliveau’s family.

The teenager was traveling on Robert Bernard Street in Drummondville on Wednesday around 9 p.m. when he was hit by a van traveling on René Lévesque Boulevard towards the freeway.

The contact, which would have taken place at a red light, threw the young man several meters further. He was then taken to a hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

Although no criminal element has been identified, an investigation is underway to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Best Jack”

In the early morning of today, the news triggered a shock wave in Jasmin Béliveau’s environment. According to testimonies collected by Le Journal, the one who had a twin and an older sister was known as a “gang guy” who was very close to his family.

“Everyone wants a Jasmin Béliveau in their life,” said Alexis Houle, a teammate of the latter at the Voltigeurs de Drummondville in the Midget BB category, helplessly.

On vacation at the beach, Jasmin showed a big smile.

He was “an always smiling guy who always managed to put a smile on everyone’s face, even if you were having a bad day,” adds Edouard Dupuis, another teammate, describing him as “the best Jack” of all times.

Aside from hockey, the Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover-based secondary school three student also enjoyed drawing his energy from the outdoors, particularly as an ATV and snowmobile enthusiast.

Dozens of small messages and flowers were placed on Jasmine’s hut at Marie-Rivier High School.

Psychological support was made available to the students at the Les Chênes school service centre. This is the third student in this community to die in a traffic accident in almost a year.

In June 2021, a 17-year-old boy, Alex Farcelais, was killed in a violent road trip in the Saint-Nicéphore sector. Almost five months later, a 13-year-old pedestrian, Émily Villeneuve, was fatally shot in Saint-Majorique-de-Grantham.

“It’s time for solidarity once again and we extend our hearts to those directly affected by the events,” General Manager Lucien Maltais said in a Facebook post.
