Last week, the 74yearold actor brought his family together at the wedding of Antonio Fagundes Neto, 42, one of his four children, in São Paulo.
Bruno Fagundes, the son of Antonio Fagundes and actress Mara Carvalho, recently spoke about the challenge of publicly revealing that he is gay. The 34yearold says he has been pressured to hide his sexuality throughout his life and has experienced “veiled homophobia.”

“As the son of a famous person, I have been under a lot of pressure my whole life from all the celebrity agents and all the cogs that are part of this system to hide and change the way I am, exist, live and show .” Myself. This is absurd violence. I had a moment when I was about 19 years old when I tried to be straight at all costs. Because I was under so much pressure and afraid of failure. People told me, 'You will fail being gay,'” he said on the Cara a Cara podcast.
“I was absolutely kneedeep in drugs. I don't even know if my parents know about it.
Bruno reports that the pressure to hide his homosexuality led him to take drugs.
“All of this hurt me very much. And I wanted to try at all costs to find ways to be part of what people consider normal. It was the darkest time of my life. A time when I was completely immersed in drugs, to a lethal, very serious level,” he said.
“I don’t even know if my parents know. Because I went against my nature, I was pressured to show something that was not natural and comfortable for me. And suddenly I said: I have to be happy. And “In my intimate and private areas it was absolutely resolved. It was more of a public look at me, and that left me a little stunned. I was put under a lot of pressure and for me that was homophobia in disguise,” he added.
Bruno Fagundes is also in a relationship with actor Igor Fernandez. The two have been together since the start of filming on the soap opera “Cara e Courage”, which began in the first half of 2021, but they only came out publicly in January of this year when they posted a romantic photo on social media.

This is the first public relationship of Bruno, son of actor Antonio Fagundes and actress Mara Carvalho. Igor publicly acknowledged his sexuality in 2019 and revealed that he was dating psychology student Gabriel Soares.

In an interview in January, Bruno Fagundes revealed that he had suffered violence on the streets because of his homosexuality. “I have experienced a lot of violence throughout my life. (…) I was beaten up on the street. I was about 20 years old and was walking with two friends near Avenida Paulista. And about 20 men.” I don’t know if they did. It makes a lot of sense to call it that, but they would be skinheads,” he said in an interview with Folha de S.Paulo.
“I remember thinking as I was being beaten, 'I'm lucky none of them had a knife in their hand or a pocket knife,'” he added.
The second violence he suffered occurred when he was asked about his sexuality by a journalist.
“I was interviewed live by a reporter and he asked me to my face if I was gay. And this in a context that had absolutely nothing to do with it. I said no. I went home and remember throwing up. It was very traumatic because I didn't have the maturity that I have today and then someone exposes you like that. This is unnecessary violence,” he recalls.
“The fact that I never talked about it [sexualidade] Rather, maybe it's because I don't feel confident enough. Today I feel. And I think sharing my story can help someone. Maybe I have the opportunity to help someone understand themselves better. And that's why I do what I do. (…),” says the actor.
“I have a father who embodies the ideal straight man, an alpha male. And that has nothing to do with him personally. “It has to do with his work,” he explains.
