AOC claims WRONG it reduced violent crime in the Bronx

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has falsely claimed she reduced violent crime in the Bronx by preventing police from getting involved and instead enlisted ex-gangsters to help.

The 33-year-old Liberal said the establishment of hospitals as a center for crime response, rather than police precincts, has resulted in a “dramatic” reduction in serious crime.

“As leaders, we should focus on solutions that work, rather than what helps us look ‘tough,'” she crowed in a tweet Tuesday.

But the latest statistics show that while homicides and rapes have declined in the Bronx, crimes are up 10 percent and burglaries are up more than 2 percent, with overall crime in the borough increasing 4.4 percent compared to 2022.

The picture is sharper than two years ago. Rape was up 11 percent, robbery was up 40 percent, assault was up 36 percent, and burglary was up 47 percent. Overall crime in the Bronx increased nearly 50 percent compared to 2021, according to the NYPD.

AOC tweeted an interview she gave to The Daily Show in which she boasted about how they now treat crime as “a public health issue” and use preventative medicine tactics to stop relapses.

Known as Stand Up to Violence, the program, now in its seventh year, is the first of its kind in New York to use Jacobi Medical Center to treat crime like a disease.

She yelled, “Fuck no,” threw back her head and laughed hysterically.

The Bronx native explained how the “response center” has shifted from prison to hospital. A team of caseworkers, including ex-convicts, then work with the crime victim to prevent retaliation.

“Some of our most effective people at this work are the ex-gang members, people who used to be at Rikers,” the progressive lawmaker said.

Adding to her comments, she tweeted: “Violence disruption is to protect us. Our job is to increase popular awareness and support for effective solutions and alternatives to mass incarceration.’

In fact, overall crime in her county is up, with 7,965 year to date compared to 7,629 in 2022. Compared to 2010, overall crime is up 59 percent.

This mirrors a broader crime wave sweeping the rest of New York City.

The latest figures released on Sunday show that overall crime has risen by 0.64 percent. That may not seem like a lot, but it’s a 46 percent increase compared to two years ago.

Compared to 2021, rape is up 8 percent, robbery is up 45 percent, assault is up 33 percent, burglary is up 23 percent, grand theft is up 54 percent, and auto theft is up 91 percent.

Homicide was the only major crime down, down 7 percent from two years ago.

“This is not what New Yorkers expect or deserve, and we will not condone it,” NYPD Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell said earlier this month as he unveiled the latest data.

“It’s clear what we’re facing: a perception among criminals that there are no consequences, even for serious crimes. We need noticeable changes.”

Without naming names or going into details, Sewell seemed to criticize the recent trend toward policies like bail reform and Manhattan Attorney Alvin Bragg’s stance on reducing or dropping charges for many crimes.

‘[The justice system] must be fair, but primarily favor the people it is designed to protect and protect. When focus is lost on these people—New Yorkers who deserve freedom from fear—politics miss their most basic purpose, which is public safety,” Sewell said.

“Everyday New Yorkers need more help. Our police need more help. We need help from every corner of the criminal justice system and from everyone who lives, works or visits our great city.”

The latest spike in crime comes after Mayor Eric Adams pledged last month that a special subway police task force would tackle crime and homelessness in stations and trains.

Adams, a Democrat and former NYPD captain, was elected on a vow to fight crime and clean up the city.
