APEC Summit: Final Declaration Condemns War in Ukraine | euronews

At their summit in Bangkok, the APEC countries condemned the war in Ukraine. However, the final statement also states that there are other views and different assessments of the situation and sanctions. The declaration essentially corresponds to what the G20 summit in Bali presented a few days ago as an agreement on the war in Ukraine.

The focus of the summit was a concept for a sustainable circular economy in the Asia-Pacific region. The idea of making the region greener dates back to an initiative by the Thai hosts. Several measures aim to achieve a more sustainable economic policy in the region and freer and fairer trade. However, APEC resolutions are not binding. The group also agreed on measures to better deal with crises like the corona pandemic in the future.

More than a third of the world’s population lives in APEC countries. More than half of the global gross national product is generated there. The aim of the community is, among other things, to remove trade barriers. The next APEC summit will take place in San Francisco in a year.
