Taking time to reflect on what just happened Wednesday night at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, some coaches and players were ecstatic, while the bizarre scene during a college basketball game prompted a McFlurry of amused reactions of disbelief and many others.

During the second half of an Atlantic 10 men’s game between Loyola Chicago and host Duquesne, what appeared to be a delivery man wandered onto the pitch with an Uber Eats bag. Bystanders at the scene noted that he was also holding a McDonald’s soda container, which many took as a strong clue as to what type of food was inside the bag.

Remarkably, the supplier made at least two forays into the ground while the game was in progress. After the second attack, the referees called for a time-out. A match official was persuaded to declare it a personally unprecedented situation (according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette).

“Well…we earned a break today.” tweeted Duquesne play-by-play announcer Tim Benz referencing a longtime McDonald’s slogan.

According to reports, the delivery man was eventually led to the hall level. His initial inability to locate his intended recipient could have presented a huge opportunity for a wannabe Hamburgerlar, but in-game reports indicated that the delivery was complete. The completed transaction was finally shown on the arena’s video monitor to cheers from the crowd.

Duquesne coach Keith Dambrot then called it “the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my life” and said (via the Post-Gazette): “Our boys were laughing their heads off [the locker room]. Guy had a job to do. He did his job well.”

When play resumed, the inspired Dukes of Dambrot rallied to a 72-58 victory over the aptly named Ramblers of Loyola Chicago given the evening’s adventures.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that a Duquesne official suggested the entire episode may have been staged, possibly as a college prank. According to a report by Pittsburgh sports nowthe alleged delivery man was just someone pretending to be from Uber Eats and was ejected after a cohort filmed him from the stands.

If that turns out to be the case, it might be cause for grimacing, but at least the first few clips of the incident made many people happier than a certain meal (which may or may not have been in the bag). ).
