Apple already impatiently mentions iOS 17 – iPhon.fr

It’s 2023, but Apple fans will have to wait to discover iOS 17. Normally, the new iPhone operating system is only presented in June, during the WWDC 2023 conference. Then it will not be available in a stable version until autumn, after the release of the next iPhones. Don’t expect Apple to drop any hints ahead of the official presentation, either, as the Cupertino-based company isn’t teasing.

Apple makes mistakes (just like everyone else)

However, as noted by our iPhone Addict colleagues, the Cupertino company is already mentioning on some pages… iOS 17. A mention of iOS 17 is present on Apple’s UK website, for example. “The Fitness app will automatically appear on your iPhone after the first pairing of an Apple Watch or when your iPhone is updated to iOS 17,” it says.

Another mention can be found on a page of Apple’s Croatian site. And this time, iOS 17 is mentioned on the title: “About Security Content of iOS 17”. Has Apple decided to tease? It’s more likely that this is a bug and someone must have typed “iOS 17” instead of “iOS 16” when writing these pages. By the way, the page titled “Security Content Information of iOS 17” contains more information about iOS 16, but not about the next version. In any case, perhaps this little accident hints at Apple’s impatience.

Rumors about iOS 17 are circulating

Note that if the company has not made a teaser for this new version of iOS, some unofficial information is already circulating on the web. Starting from this iOS 17 version, the Cupertino company could, for example, adapt the iPhone operating system to future European regulations of the digital market legislation or DMA. For example, the company would finally install competitors from the App Store or sideloading (installing apps without going through a store) on the iPhone.

Other iPhone features exclusive to Apple may become available to third-party developers. This may affect the NFC module, the camera, the Find My network, or the web browser engine. For those who have always dreamed of having a freedom comparable to that of Android on an iPhone, this is good news.

However, opening key components of the operating system to third-party developers would be resource intensive. Therefore, these changes could affect the development of other new features planned for iOS 17.
