Apple, Meta: their expected virtual reality headsets? – The daily exchange

After the buzz surrounding the Metaverse has died down, the 3D market is still looking for itself. However, Apple and Meta are persevering in this segment with the release of their new virtual reality headsets. But what are these ambitious products worth?

The Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) headset by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)much-anticipated, was unveiled on June 5 at the American giant’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

Called Vision ProThis helmet is the only new product the brand has launched in ten years and for many it would be the most unconventional launch it has ever made.

A few days earlier, Meta (NASDAQ:META) also announced the release of its latest virtual reality headset, the task 3.

Typically, near-simultaneous announcements of two products offered by two competing tech giants require a comparison of their respective features.

But I said “normal”. Because if you compare the quest to the vision, it’s difficult to see a lot of similarities. But we will do our best.

what they have in common

With this project, Meta breaks with its traditional “Virtual Reality” experience in a confined space and competes with Apple by offering the user a “Mixed Reality” experience.

Mixed reality (sometimes called augmented reality) uses cameras to overlay images of the user’s surroundings with graphics from headset apps.

What sets them apart

The list of differences between the Vision Pro and the Quest 3 is long and significant.

First, and everyone is talking about it, there is the price. At a whopping $3,500, Apple’s Vision Pro will cost seven times what the Quest 3, which retails for $500.

Meta will also offer a premium version, the Quest Pro, but still affordable at $1,000.

Apple doesn’t seem to mind turning to the most enthusiastic tech fans again.

There may be an even bigger difference between the two products in how they work.

It looks like the Quest 3 will continue to serve primarily as video game support, while the Vision Pro appears to be more focused on its augmented reality capabilities. While gaming is one of its use cases, the Vision Pro’s business case is heavily focused on enhancing and expanding its users’ work experience.

The Vision Pro manages to incorporate Apple’s signature design while also being the first augmented or virtual reality device that can honestly be called “glasses”.

As for the Quest 3, while it’s the slimmest version Meta has offered to date, it’s still the bulkier of the two products. It still offers controllers, while the Vision Pro only uses hand gestures.

Meta’s virtual reality headset needs to improve on its previous design, which was widely criticized for being too uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.

The Quest 3 will be available later this year, while the Vision Pro will be out early next year.
