During a meeting here with UN special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, the official praised the speed of the Arab response to the disaster in that country, his spokesman Jamal Rushdi said in a statement.
The spokesman said the meeting also discussed the crisis in Syria, which has been suffering from a foreign-imposed war since 2011.
Both parties reiterated the need to promote dialogue in search of a political solution to the situation there.
Pedersen also met yesterday with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who urged talks to resume while defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of this Arab country.
Shoukry called for an end to violence, terrorism and foreign interference to “put an end to the suffering of the Syrian people”.
The head of Egyptian diplomacy updated Pedersen on the support Cairo was giving to that nation following the recent earthquakes that devastated large parts of that nation and his recent visit to Damascus.
For his part, the UN envoy referred to his efforts to promote a negotiated solution to the conflict in Syria. At the end of last month, the Egyptian foreign minister traveled to the country where he was received by President Bashar Al Assad.
Shoukry also spoke separately to his Syrian counterpart Faisal Al Mekdad, to whom he conveyed a message of solidarity and support following the devastating earthquakes.
A day earlier, Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives Hanafy El Gebaly arrived in Damascus after attending the 34th Arab Parliamentary Union Conference in Baghdad, Iraq.
The El Gabaly and Shoukry visits were the first visits by senior Egyptian officials to the country since the war there began in 2011.
