This week the story of a Chilean tourist went viral who recounted her experience with the approval of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), a document issued through the United States Visa Waiver Program, of which she is a member in several countries, more than 40, such as Chile, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Poland etc.
The woman had traveled to Miami with a friend to enjoy a vacation and cruise, but was unable to complete her itinerary because she was arrested and deported from the country for working in Florida on an ESTA authorization.
The user, who identified herself on social networks as @bydanielaponce, explained that she used to travel to the United States every year using the ESTA, a document that citizens of some countries, including Chile, can apply for. However, on this occasion something went wrong.
Can I work in Miami with an ESTA authorization? Better not do it
According to her, border officials (CBP) called her and forced her to sign several papers without giving them much information. She didn’t know that this was actually the process of her deportation. They then asked her if she had ever worked with an ESTA, and although she refused, they sent her back to Chile: “They still made me sign a paper.”
The woman eventually admitted that she had worked in the United States for a few days, but officials had no evidence of this. However, the authorities somehow found out and punished her. Therefore, he warned his compatriots not to make the same mistake to avoid being punished by US law.
In her case, she will not be able to return to the United States for five years starting November 11, 2022, the date of her deportation. But others could be expelled for 10 years.
