Argentina: 13 dead after club roof collapses during storm

At least 13 people died on Saturday in Bahia Blanca, a port city in southwestern Argentina, after the roof of a sports club collapsed during a strong storm, authorities said.

“Unfortunately, emergency services confirm the death of 13 people at Club Bahiense del Norte. “The fire department continues to search for people who are still under the rubble,” the municipality said in a statement.

The tragedy occurred during an ice skating competition within this club.

In addition to heavy rain, the city, which partially has no electricity, also recorded gusts of more than 140 km/h, according to the weather service.

Small neighboring towns were also affected by the storms, and in some there was even hail.
