Buenos Aires, 25 January (EFE).- The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, held a meeting this Wednesday with the President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, where they agreed that a day later “the deepening of integration “ of the region to continue the celebration of the VII Summit of Celac.

During this meeting, Fernández addressed various issues on the bilateral agenda with the aim of “developing” ties between the two countries, while emphasizing the mutual interest in “strengthening the historical bond of friendship” that binds Argentina and Honduras, according to a Communiqué published by the Argentine Presidency.

Likewise, both Presidents expressed their belief that a unified region is “a tool for the development” of all the countries that make it up.

The meeting was attended by Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero; the Minister of Foreign Relations and International Cooperation of Honduras, Enrique Reina García; and the Honduran Secretary to the Presidency, Héctor Manuel Zelaya Castro.

The Honduran President traveled to Buenos Aires to attend the VII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States this Tuesday.

INTENSIVE BILATERAL AGENDA

The Argentine President began his agenda of bilateral meetings this Wednesday with a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, in which he reaffirmed his intention to “deepen the bond” between the two countries and “point to greater integration in the work towards the region”. .”

The meeting came after the controversy over Díaz-Canel’s attendance at the Celac summit following complaints of human rights violations in Cuba.

A controversy that also extended to invitations to attend to the Presidents of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, who ultimately did not attend the conclave.

After this meeting, Fernández received the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, where they discussed the importance of “strengthening” the “strategic relationship” between the European Union (EU) and Celac.

The Argentine President also met Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry, to whom he expressed his “strong commitment to finding solutions” to his country’s situation.

According to a presidency statement, Fernández highlighted the “historic ties of solidarity” between the two countries and “the clash of positions and values” with Haiti, while reaffirming Argentina’s “constant support and accompaniment” to the Caribbean country.

Subsequently, the Argentine leader appreciated the presence of the United States at the Celac summit in a meeting with Joe Biden’s adviser on America, Chris Dodd.

In his conversation with Dodd, Fernández underlined the goal of strengthening the regional body “as a multilateral forum for inter-American and global dialogue based on solidarity, cooperation and peaceful resolution of conflicts”, with regional peace and unity serving as axes of diversity.

Before his meeting with his Honduran counterpart, the Argentine President received the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu, whom he expressed his support for another four years at the helm of the organism.

These six bilateral meetings took place after the VII Celac Summit, which was attended by representatives of the 33 countries of the region. EFE
