An Argentinian mother and her partner accused of killing and sexually abusing the mother’s five-year-old son were reportedly sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday.

The Buenos Aires Times reported that Magdalena Espósito Valenti, the mother of 5-year-old Lucio Dupuy, and her partner Abigail Páez were previously found guilty of aggravated manslaughter, and after 15 days of deliberating a verdict, the Oral Court of Santa Rosa in La Pampa settled life terms for both women.

The couple were responsible for caring for the child, and both were charged with aggravated homicide over the boy’s death. According to InfoBae, Páez has been found guilty of another count of sexual abuse.

The Times reported that Valenti and Páez allegedly killed Lucio between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. after months of abuse.

At one point, the alleged wives said the boy fell on their home during an attempted robbery. The women were arrested after medical tests painted a picture of the abuse.

Her lawyers claim that neither woman wanted to kill Lucio.

Neither Valenti nor Páez were present at the reading of the verdict, which was delivered by judges Alejandra Ongaro, Daniel Sáez Zamora and Andrés Olié.

The same judges found Valenti guilty of three counts of aggravated murder, the publication reported, although she was not found guilty of sexual abuse.

Páez, on the other hand, was found guilty of “serious outrageous sexual abuse,” the Times reported, based on her being a guardian of the minor and using living together to commit the crime.

Páez was also convicted of two counts of aggravated homicide, qualified by intent and willful malice.

According to the verdict, both Páez and Valenti understood the crime they committed and were required To as sex offenders.

The judges wrote in their decision that Páez “has clear ideas of right and wrong, just and unjust, legal and illegal, knows that the alleged act constitutes a crime, and understands the responsibility that would fall to her, that is, her.” understands the criminality of their actions and can direct their actions.”

Prosecutor Verónica Ferrero told the Times that both Valenti and Páez would be imprisoned for the rest of their lives.

“Due to the article of the Criminal Code under which they were convicted, the defendants cannot apply for parole even if they are over 50 years old,” the prosecutor said. “It’s a life sentence, you don’t have the option of parole; you can’t ask for parole after a sentence has expired.”
