Argentina refuses house arrest for attacker

On September 1, 2022, a man identified as Fernando Sabag aimed a pistol at the former head of state near her home in the capital’s Recoleta district, but the gun did not go off.

Days later, among the suspects being investigated, his girlfriend Brenda Uliarte and Carrizo were arrested.

According to the Telam news agency, the chamber rejected the request of Carrizo’s lawyers and ordered Judge María Eugenia Capuchetti to submit the main part of the case to an oral hearing.

However, the issued resolution failed to mention the importance of deepening the investigation into those behind the attack.

Fernández’s lawyers, José Manuel Ubeira and Marcos Aldazabal, have repeatedly asked to be involved in the investigation, pointing out that Carrizo played a fundamental role in the attack, not a minor one, so he could be considered an accomplice -Perpetrator and direct participant in the crime.

Upon presentation of the Vice President’s representatives, the Federal Chamber of Buenos Aires asked Capuchetti to consider evidence, which he refused.

Among the elements in favor of extending his testimony were cell phone messages from the suspect with text such as: “Remember that date”, “She’s already dead”, “You don’t know what we did to it. Creating fear so the government knows who they are dealing with.”
