Sputnik Argentina will not join the BRICS countries, Diana Mondino, a candidate for Argentine foreign minister, told Sputnik after the presidential election.
“No,” she said when asked if the country would join the BRICS on January 1, 2024. “I don’t know why there is so much interest in BRICS,” Mondino added.
This Sunday (19), the farright politician Javier Milei won the presidential elections in Argentina. He will take office on December 10th. Milei defends the dollarization of the economy and a foreign policy focused on Israel and the United States. He is also against joining BRICS.

The BRICS currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. In August, at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia were invited to become full members of the bloc from January 1, 2024.
