Havana, September 15 (ACN) Alberto Fernández, President of Argentina, in his speech in this capital today called for insisting on the production of our own capabilities to generate science and technology and thus no longer depend on the science and technology of others to be the summit of the Group of 77 (G77) and China, which will meet in Havana until tomorrow.

The Argentine president warned of the failure of the neoliberal model and globalization and mentioned the BRICS (acronym for the group consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) as an emerging alternative to the crisis, the bloc in which his country joined . recently.

He pointed out that the world is changing and is marked by a defining moment such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which has exposed the vast inequality on the planet.

Against this background, he stressed the need to change the world economic order, which operates according to the same logic that aims to maintain the unequal distribution of wealth and which has its main ally in the International Monetary Fund, which subordinates itself to the United States government as a heavy burden for the development of the Third World.

The global South contains the natural resources and raw materials that the most industrialized countries need, which represents a huge and untapped opportunity to demand a level playing field, he emphasized.

He also highlighted his country’s experience in the development of science and technology and showed the importance of reaching global consensus on the strategies to be implemented to promote these areas.

The expensive thing is not the investments, but the ignorance, the lack of public policies for education, technology and innovation, emphasized Fernández.

He also pointed to the example of Cuba, subjected to a shameful blockade for six decades, and how it has overcome difficulties with tangible realities such as medicines and technological products, benefiting not only the largest of the Antilles, but humanity.

The South American head of state thanked all countries that maintain their unchanging position in defense of Argentina’s sovereignty over the territory of the Malvinas Islands.

He ended his speech at the G77 and China summit with a quote from the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, who warned that many dreamers are needed today to realize the dream of a more just and equal world.
