The proposal for a plan to develop a new district, including a new arena for the Arizona Coyotes, was therefore rejected by the people of Tempe late Tuesday evening.
“The National League is terribly disappointed with the results of the referendum on the Coyotes Arena project in Tempe and Commissioner Gary Bettman has issued a statement in response. We will explore with the Coyotes what options are available going forward.”
“The next steps for our franchise will be evaluated by our owners and the NHL over the coming weeks,” commented Coyotes President Xavier A. Gutierrez.
Remember, the Arizona lineup played last season at Mullett Arena, which seats under 5,000 on Arizona State University campus.
In case of relocation, Quebec is certainly not the only option. The city of Houston, Texas, would also be in the running.
