The serial-criminal son of a US official from Arkansas is back in prison after being arrested for meth possession while on probation for previous drug-related offenses.
James Womack, 34, was arrested at his home in Rogers on Wednesday after he was caught trying to hide a container of suspected methamphetamine when police arrived at his home for a home visit on parole, according to Fox 16.com.
Womack, whose father is GOP Rep. Steve Womack, tried to get involved in the case, which police later discovered contained meth, several syringes and nine grams of meth.
The parole officer insisted to officers that he was using meth and not selling it when he was arrested, their arrest report said.
Womack has been arrested multiple times since 2010 for repeat drug offenses
Arrested for meth possession in 2018, Womack was set to serve nine years in prison until his early parole during the COVID-19 pandemic
In 2012, Womack was arrested multiple times for violating his probation after being charged with selling six grams of meth in the Benton County Jail in 2010
Womack is currently in the Benton County Jail on $15,000 bail. He was charged with criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of the controlled substance methamphetamine.
The 34-year-old is no stranger to the criminal justice system, having been arrested back in 2018 and later sentenced to nine years in prison on multiple drug and weapons charges.
He was released in early 2020 under COVID rules aimed at emptying jails of non-violent inmates as the pandemic began to rise, but now appears to have returned to the criminal record.
“Like so many families in this country, our family is dealing with the addiction of a loved one. The recent arrest of our son adds to that pain,” Steve Womack said in a statement at the time.
He continued, “We love him unconditionally; However, as an adult, he is responsible for the choices he makes. We honor and respect the criminal justice system that will decide its fate.’
Arkansas Assemblyman Steve Womack previously said after his son’s arrest in 2018 that James is dealing with addiction and “as an adult, he is responsible for the decisions” he made
In 2012, Womack was arrested multiple times for violating his probation after being charged with selling six grams of meth in the Benton County Jail in 2010, according to 5 News.
Steve Womack has not commented on his son’s recent arrest.
