Armed confrontation in Nigeria kills six

State Police Public Relations Officer Ikenga Todhukwu said the events were sparked when the attackers, armed with pistols and explosive devices, attacked an armed forces headquarters in the city of Oyi.

A witness to these events, who did not give his name, pointed out that the gunmen fired on the police station as they approached this facility and that the “agents assigned to the premises put up a stubborn resistance”.

Five dead were reported from the ranks of the attackers, several sources named them.

The attack came about 24 hours after further attacks by unknown elements on police units in Ukpor and Ogidi communes were reported, killing three people.

Violence ramped up in Anambra and other Nigerian states with just under five days left for the area to celebrate the next 25 presidential and general elections for which some 93.5 million voters have registered.
