According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the gunman shot and killed a man in La Doré before being subdued a few hours later on Saturday.
The SQ took stock of the event that put Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean on alert in the evening.
Police were first called around 11am because a man was shot and injured in the Chemin de la Branche Ouest sector, according to SQ publicist Camille Savoie.
“According to the first information received, at least one shot was fired,” she said. The victim was transported to a hospital. She is currently in critical but stable condition.
Since there were indications that the suspect was still in the crime area, the SQ then raised the alarm shortly before 2 p.m. The SQ then asked citizens to lock their doors and stay away from windows.
“The suspect was located and subdued by police around 5:45 p.m. in the area affected by the alert,” Camille Savoie said.
The suspect was met by investigators from the SQ Serious Crimes Service. A forensic technician was also dispatched to the crime scene.
The investigations are ongoing.
