Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on Saturday that they plan to “establish a completely new institute for temporary voluntary military service for women in the near future.”

In a message released on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the establishment of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, Pashinyan expressed his gratitude to “our sisters who provide contracted service in our army, including combat service.”

Pashinián revealed that “the government has implemented extensive reforms in the army, the aim of which is to make every soldier, every officer, more capable and more professional, while at the same time more prosperous”.

The Prime Minister pointed out that “the reforms of military education in the implementation phase form the basis of these reforms”.

Along those lines, Pashinián explained that they are also “founding a secondary school for officers, which he believes will be “an educational center with the best modern standards and a forge for the training of a new class of officers.” “

Likewise, Pashinián reported that they are taking measures to equip their army with “modern weapons and equipment and are trying to encourage local producers as much as possible”, recalling that the “defense budget for 2023 has increased more compared to that of 2018 than has doubled”.

However, Pashinián pointed out that “the reform process in the army is not going well, as the unstable security environment brings new challenges that sometimes lead to big mistakes”.
