The prank comes after Hammer took a step back from his acting career following a series of disturbing allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct.

If you’ve been scrolling through social media in the last 24 hours, you may have been fooled by a viral tweet claiming Armie Hammer has started work as a hotel concierge in the Cayman Islands.
As I’m sure you all know, the Call Me By Your Name actor took a big step back from the spotlight last year after a series of disturbing allegations were leveled at him.

In January 2021, a series of leaked Instagram messages surfaced online. Hammer’s DMs were believed to have been sent to several different women, although this has not been confirmed.

The unconfirmed DMs detailed graphic sexual fantasies, including references to rape and violence, and in one message he reportedly described himself as “100% cannibal”.

Shortly after, another woman, identified only as Effie, accused Hammer of “violently” raping her in 2017. Hammer has denied all allegations.

Shortly after allegations exploded on social media, it was reported that Hammer had pulled out of an upcoming film, Shotgun Wedding, in which he was set to star alongside Jennifer Lopez.

Rumors soon circulated that Hammer had been fired from Lionsgate, the production company working on the project, prompting the actor to first comment on the allegations.

“I’m not responding to those bullshit claims, but given the vicious and bogus attacks I’ve been receiving online, I can’t in good conscience leave my kids behind for four months to shoot a movie in the Dominican Republic,” he told E! news back then. “Lionsgate supports me in this and I am grateful to them for that.”

However, by February 2021, Hammer was dropped from his talent agency, and his personal publicist resigned from his role.

A month later, in March, the Los Angeles Police Department announced it was investigating Effie’s allegations that Hammer raped and abused her in 2017. No formal charges have been filed against him at this time.

The year after, it was reported that Hammer – who has consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing – is seeking treatment for drug, sex and alcohol-related problems. He and his ex-wife Elizabeth were photographed together with their two children in March this year, amid reports that the two are “starting to figure things out”.

But given Hammer’s retirement from the public eye, fans were easily convinced this week that the actor had accepted new employment after an intriguing flyer made the rounds on Twitter.
In case you haven’t seen it, the flyer – branded with the logo of a hotel in the Cayman Islands called Morritt’s Resort – featured a photo of the Death on the Nile actor with his name underneath.

Promoting Hammer as a personal concierge – “here to help you get the most out of your vacation” – the ad claimed that “Armie” can give guests a free guide to the island, including “the best snorkeling and diving spots” and places to swim with wild turtles.
Writer Muna Mire shared a photo of the flyer to Twitter and claimed in a now-deleted post that her friend’s parents went to the resort during her stay and had Hammer as a concierge.
The tweet took off, and many fans were quickly drawn to the possibility of Hammer working in a hotel. The theory was only supported by the fact that Hammer is already known for spending a lot of time in the Cayman Islands, having grown up and vacationing there as a child. He was last seen there in December.

In fact, speculation about Hammer’s employment has become so intense that his attorney, Andrew Brettler, has now refuted claims that he works at the hotel.

Brettler confirmed to Variety that the flyer is fake, and a hotel employee who spoke to the store over the phone said it was a prank.

To debunk the viral post, The Cut also received confirmation that the flyer was fake.
