Everything Everywhere All At Once, Babylon and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery took home top film awards at the 27th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards tonight. Yvette Nicole Brown hosted today’s awards ceremony for the second year running at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown. Check out the full list below.
Everything Everywhere All At Once won a Fantasy Feature Film, early Hollywood epic Babylon, directed by Damien Chazelle, won a Period Feature Prize, and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery won a Contemporary Feature Award.
Since the guild launched its trophy show in 1996, one of its grand prize winners – for Fantasy, Period or Contemporary Feature – or has won the Academy Award for Art Direction/Production Design in 18 of the 26 years, including the last nine years a series. Dune, winner of last year’s ADG fantasy film, received the Academy Award.
Next month, the teams behind All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, Babylon, Elvis and The Fabelmans will compete for the Production Design Oscar.
The show began by presenting the William Cameron Menzies Award to Guillermo del Toro, who in his acceptance speech emphasized the importance of community and collaboration. This was soon followed by del Toro’s Pinocchio, which won for the animated feature film.
Nicole Kidman has flown in from Australia to present the Guild’s Cinematic Imagery Award to Elvis director Baz Luhrmann and his wife and longtime producing partner Catherine Martin. “Guillermo got it so right, it’s about deep, deep collaboration,” Luhrmann said, adding, “We’re so honored to be a part of this storytelling community.”
Tonight’s TV winners include Del Toro’s Wunderkammer for the limited-edition TV movie, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for an hour-long fantasy single-camera series, Pachinko for an hour-long single-camera series, How I Met Your Father for a multi-camera series , Our Flag Means Death for half-hour one-camera series and Severance for hour-long one-camera contemporary series.
Saturday Night Live won the variety series category. The trophy was dedicated to the late Eugene Lee, who had served as the series’ production designer since its launch in 1975. Lee died earlier this month at the age of 83.
