“Looks like I still don’t believe it. It’s not logical; December had become a tradition, an annual gathering for so many Quebecers,” laments Marc-André Fortin.

The singer, along with his wife Caroline Riverin, will have been part of the show’s troupe for 15 seasons. Like all Québec Issime artists and craftspeople, they were informed a few days ago that the Place des Arts had decided not to host a December this year.

“Every time the curtain rose, I had the same thrill. And the audience was still there. I know that many families will miss the show,” says Marc-André Fortin.

The same goes for Marc Hervieux, for whom the December adventure lasted four years.

“This is a huge disappointment. There is this tradition that was created and that is still followed by many people. It’s always been extraordinary to see people’s reaction. We heard them laugh, cry and of course sing,” he confides.

For his part, Michaël Girard admits to being “very surprised” by the abrupt end of the partnership between December and Place des Arts. Although he hasn’t been part of the show’s regular cast for a number of years, the singer continued to make sporadic appearances there. He will have seen his last fall of the curtain during the 2022 holidays.

“This show was a family affair. December was the first time I sang with my sons on stage. I will never forget that moment,” he says.

The show also brings back family memories with Lydia Bouchard; The dancer and choreographer starred in December for a number of years, as did her two children.

“It’s going to be a big deal for my daughter to learn that this show isn’t coming back. But I’m not ready to let go of the towel. I give Robert the chance [Doré, le producteur] playing his cards, using creativity and resilience as he can. Everything works,” she said.
