Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis recently sparked controversy when they expressed support for their former colleague Danny Masterson in his rape trial. The two actors who shared the screen with Masterson in the series That 70’s showwrote a cover letter in favor of the convicted actorbefore he was found guilty.

In these letters, Kutcher and Kunis attempted to paint a positive image of Masterson and praised his influence on their lives. Kutcher said Danny Masterson was a positive influence and role model to him as a friend. He even credited Masterson with keeping him away from drugs, a common problem in Hollywood.

In each letter, the cast expressed their gratitude to Masterson for his role as mentor and friend. Mila Kunis called Masterson an “extraordinary friend, confidant and, most of all, an extraordinary big brother.” She also highlighted Masterson’s crucial role in her personal and professional development.
However, the letters were released following the sentencing last Thursday of Danny Masterson, who was found guilty of two of the three rape cases filed against him. The letters written by the two popular actors sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some deeming them inappropriate given the crimes for which Masterson was convicted.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have since responded to the criticism.
In fact, in a video message shared on Instagram, they expressed that they were aware of the pain their letters may have caused the victims. They also emphasized their unwavering support for victims of sexual violence, saying that they have always supported victims through their work and will continue to do so in the future.

Kutcher said Masterson’s family contacted them several months ago and asked if they could write character letters on behalf of the defendant to present a more positive image of him to the judge when deciding his sentence.
On social networks, the Kutcher-Kunis couple is heavily highlighted by several Hollywood celebrities who are surprised by their gesture of support for the actor, who faces a prison sentence of no less than 30 years.
