Ask Dad: Purdy is the ‘complete package’ as the 49ers’ longtime QB

Is Brock Purdy the 49ers’ long-term answer at quarterback? Greg Papa thinks so.

In the latest “Ask Papa” segment, the 49ers broadcaster was asked by NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco what he’s seen of the rookie, leading him to believe Purdy has a chance of becoming San Francisco’s long-term answer to the position be.

“Everything,” said Dad. “I can counter and ask what I haven’t seen. He’s the complete package… I saw it from training camp.

“If you look at him, he’s in total command. Written without a script, tough as nails in a hostile environment. What more does he need to prove than just making it over an entire career? I can do it. I don’t think of anything he’s weak at. He is smaller; he doesn’t have Josh Allen, Patrick Mahome’s elite throwing arm, but he has arm enough. That doesn’t mean he won’t have bad games.

While Papa believes Purdy possesses the necessary qualities to be an effective NFL quarterback, he acknowledges that Iowa State’s product isn’t perfect.

“So he doesn’t have an elite limb, he doesn’t have an elite size, but he has everything else elite,” Papa explained. “And he has elite intangibles.”

Purdy, who replaced an injured Jimmy Garoppolo replacing an injured Trey Lance, is the third quarterback the 49ers started at center this season and arguably the most prolific.

Whether or not Purdy can lead San Francisco back to the Super Bowl remains to be seen, but Dad believes the 22-year-old has a good chance of making the starting XI for the foreseeable future.
