The White House said Tuesday it was “deeply concerned by allegations” by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who accused the Indian government of involvement in the killing of a Sikh leader, also a Canadian citizen, in Canada.

“It is very important that Canada’s investigation continues and the culprits are brought to justice,” said White House National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson, commenting on this affair, which triggered a serious diplomatic crisis between India and Canada.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, an activist for the creation of a Sikh state called Khalistan who came to Canada in 1997, was wanted by Indian authorities for alleged acts of terrorism and conspiracy to commit murder.
He denied allegations, according to the World Organization of Sikhs of Canada, a nonprofit group that aims to defend the interests of Canadian Sikhs.
