Aston Martin has announced that it is moving forward on the path to electrification after reaching an agreement to develop high-performance batteries for electric vehicles with cellular technology company Britishvolt.
Aston Martin and Britishvolt have formed a partnership in a Memorandum of Understanding, according to a press release from the luxury car maker. The collaboration will support Aston Martin’s plans to launch its first electric car in 2025. efficient vehicle with range and fast charging capability.
“This powerful collaboration combines Aston Martin’s 109 years of engineering prowess with the experience of the fast-growing British technology business,” said Aston Martin CEO Tobias Moers. “Working with Britishvolt, I believe we can create new technologies to create Aston Martin’s benchmark electric vehicles that live up to our reputation for performance and ultra-luxury with the highest standards of sustainability.”
The companies will jointly research, develop and manufacture battery packs, including custom modules and a battery management system, Aston Martin said. The automaker says it is currently developing alternatives to the internal combustion engine, and a battery partnership with Britishvolt will be the next step in that process. In 2024, the company will launch a hybrid mid-engined Valhalla supercar. By 2026, every Aston Martin product line will have an electrified variant, and by 2030 its core portfolio will be fully electrified. Aston Martin plans to use its close relationship with Mercedes. -Benz to help develop their electric powertrains.

Along with a new strategic partnership with Britishvolt, Aston Martin has hired 176 new engineers in 2021 to help with the full transition to electric powertrains. Engaging experts in electric vehicle development, software and electrical systems to spearhead Aston Martin’s transition to electric vehicles will allow the company to maintain its brand’s legendary status. In this luxury and performance segment, Aston Martin will take on Lamborghini and Ferrari, whose EV expectations are also expected to combine ultra-luxury vehicles with environmentally friendly powertrains.
