Earlier this year, we tested the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16, which features an Intel Core i9-13900H and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU. Intel is preparing to officially unveil the Meteor Lake generation in the coming days, and it appears that the Zephyrus M16 will also be eligible for its new silicon.
Leaker @momomo_us on X discovered evidence of a ROG Zephyrus M16 GU605MY equipped with the Meteor Lake Core Ultra 9 185H processor. Similar to the current version, the upcoming Zephyrus M16 upgrade will also offer a 16-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) panel. This is most likely the same 240Hz Mini LED we’ve already seen, although final confirmation is still pending.
Meteor Lake’s 3D Foveros packaging allows for 16GB of LPDDR5x-7500 RAM. Unlike the current Zephyrus M16, which supports up to 64GB of DDR5-4800 memory expansion, the Core Ultra 9 185H upgrade appears to be limited to 16GB of soldered LPDDR5x RAM. If this is indeed the onboard storage, the 120GB/s bandwidth could offset some scalability issues.
However, this is just speculation. We’ll have to wait for official announcements to see if this becomes a trend among Meteor Lake’s high-end offerings in 2024.
The Zephyrus M16 display is powered by the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU. A 1TB SSD hard drive is also included.
For those who don’t know, the Core Ultra 9 is part of what Intel calls its “Leadership Offerings” Meteor Lake series. The Core Ultra 9 185H is a 16-core (6+8+2) and 22-thread processor that is claimed to accelerate up to 5.1GHz. Meteor Lake is based on the Intel 4 process and uses a combination of new Redwood Cove Performance cores and Crestmont Efficiency cores.
Meteor Lake’s tiled architecture allows Intel to place two of the E cores in the SoC tile to handle background and low-power tasks. For more information, see our Meteor Lake overview.
Intel and its partners are expected to reveal their Meteor Lake designs in the coming days and during CES 2024. So stay tuned to get the latest updates.
