At least 13 people have died in a shelling at an industrial bakery west of Kyiv as the noose tightens around the Ukrainian capital.

At least 13 people were killed on Monday in explosions at an industrial bakery in the town of Makarov, about fifty kilometers west of Kyiv, Ukrainian emergency services said.

In a message on Telegram, the services indicated that there were about 30 people in the perimeter of the bakery at the time of the shelling. However, the message was deleted shortly thereafter without further details.

An emergency spokeswoman, initially indicating that she wanted to confirm the death toll, then confirmed to AFP that at least 13 people were actually killed in the shelling. Emergency services also said they rescued five people stuck in the rubble of the factory, which was closed.
