At least six dead in small airliner crash near Port au Prince

At least six people died when a small airliner crashed in the town of Carrefour near the capital Port-au-Prince on Wednesday April 20.

The device ensured the journey between Port-au-Prince and Jacmel in the south of the country, said the head of the Carrefour police, Pierre Belamy, on Saturday of the AFP news agency. All five passengers on the plane, including the pilot, died. In the crash, the plane killed a motorcycle taxi driver and struck a truck transporting consumer goods, seriously injuring five people, according to Judge Moïse Jean. All of the injured were taken to the hospital.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry said in a tweet “deeply saddened” by the tragedy and offered “condolences to the families of the victims”.

Air travel has surged in Haiti since last year as any safe road transport to the south of the country is made impossible by gang clashes in Martissant, a Port-au-Prince neighborhood crossed by the only road in that direction .
