MADRID, 17 (EUROPA PRESS)

An extratropical cyclone has killed at least three people in southern Brazil, and another twelve are still missing.

“Unfortunately, we have confirmed the third death and people are still missing,” said Rio Grande do Sul State Governor Eduardo Leite on his Twitter account this Friday.

According to the Brazilian newspaper “O Globo”, the total number of missing people is twelve, and the number of customers of the state electricity company who were left without a light is also estimated at 250,000.

Leite assured that his “current priority is to find the missing and rescue people who may still be isolated due to the flooding” and that all teams are working “intensely” on the rescue effort.

However, the governor insisted that “at the same time, the damage to bridges, roads and houses are being assessed to work on restoring these structures”.

Local authorities have urged people in the area to avoid travel to the affected areas and to remain in their homes while safe.
