At your party! Since 1970: a wild basement party

Rock, pop and funk songs covered by Jean Ravel, Guylaine Tanguay, Rémi Chassé and Annie Villeneuve created an electrifying atmosphere at the Théâtre Capitole on Wednesday evening.

Jean Ravel and Guylaine Tanguay delivered a remarkable performance. The country singer, dressed in a magnificent black sequin dress and beautiful silver heels, did not hesitate to think outside the box by interpreting various funk and pop sounds in a very beautiful way, such as Crazy by Gnarls Barkley and Cotton Hoodie. from Bleu Jeans Bleu. His performance on AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long” was just as electrifying and brought people out of their seats.

For his part, the rocker stayed true to himself and shone with precision and charisma on songs like U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and Green Day’s “When I Come Around.” The veteran also brought his smooth vocals to bear on ballads like The Police’s “Every Breath You Take” and Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

Even though the songs played were not all from the 1970s and could vary stylistically, the sequence was natural and the arrangement was very tasteful.

Brave Annie Villeneuve

The singer had a big commission on her hands with tracks like “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele and “Zombie” by The Cranberries. However, his voice could do these songs justice and almost made us forget who the original artists were.

Rémi Chassé in top form

The 2014 La Voix finalist shined in every song he sang, especially Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” where he didn’t miss a note despite a hellish cadence. His opening blues version of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” was also excellent.

Funny and heartwarming

Before the singers arrived, the audience was treated to around ten minutes while classic products from the 1970s were shown on the big screen à la Télé Achats.

“An 8-track by Ginette Reno signed by Jean-Pierre Ferland, no idea why it’s his signature,” we could hear in the form of an advertisement announced with the silly humor of Réal Béland, who is staging this show signed.

The four guest artists then took their places on the stage, which looked like a 1970s-style basement decorated with a beige floral sofa and sections of faux wood walls.

Holiday classics like Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” “So This Is Christmas,” and “23.” December” were, among other things, heartwarming moments of the evening. However, it was the rock and funk songs that kept the audience on the edge of their seats for much of the show.

The show at your party! Since 1970 the Théâtre Capitole has been performing until December 31st.
