The shortstop spot continues to be an issue for the Braves with Orlando Arcia injured despite being one of the best teams in the league this season. Vaughn Grissom has been downright terrible defensively and pretty bad offensively since his draft. Braden Shewmake has a much better defensive profile but has no indication he will be anything other than an offensive signing as well. Orlando Arcia may be a week or two away from his return, but while he’s started the season well, his long-term profile doesn’t inspire a high level of confidence that he can be the guy you want to be on a championship-caliber team to start. Depending on his performance when he comes back, shortstop could be a trading target at deadline.

AJ Smith-Shawver made his first Double A start on Friday while Shuster dominated at Gwinnett.
