Attack on the Capitol: Joe Biden commemorates the January 6 attack

A ceremony will be held at the White House on Friday.

US President Joe Biden plans to commemorate the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol with a ceremony at the White House, according to a calendar released Monday by his office.

Friday’s event will be a rare moment for Joe Biden to raise the issue of the deadly attack on the Capitol in Washington by supporters of former Republican President Donald Trump. A year ago, Joe Biden accused his predecessor of posing a threat to American democracy if he rarely mentions it publicly and focuses on defusing tensions in the country.

Joe Biden, who will soon begin his third term as president, has announced that he will run for another four-year term, although he has not yet formally submitted his candidacy. For his part, Donald Trump has never come to terms with his 2020 presidential defeat and announced last November that he would seek his party’s nomination in 2024. Joe Biden’s diary indicated that Friday’s ceremony would take place in the East Room of the White House. No further information was given.
