Attempted murder: man shot dead in Rivière-des-Prairies –

A 24-year-old man was transported to hospital after being shot in Montreal on Saturday night.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a call was made to 9-1-1 to report that a person had been struck by a projectile on 1st Street at 24th Avenue in the Rivière-des-Prairies neighborhood.

The victim was quickly transported to a hospital to be treated for serious upper body injuries. According to the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), the young man’s life is no longer in danger.

An abandoned and damaged vehicle linked to the shooting was also reported to the SPVM on Gouin Boulevard East at 24th Avenue minutes after the initial call.

“The first event would have taken place at the intersection of Avenue JJ-Joubert and Avenue Maurice Duplessis,” said SPVM spokeswoman Jeanne Drouin. Shell casings were reportedly found at this location.

The shooting would have occurred where the shell casings were found, then the vehicle would have quickly fled the scene before knocking over a Hydro-Québec pole a few kilometers away and ending its course at the entrance to a residential building. The victim then left the scene of the accident to go to 1st Street and ask for help.

A security fence was erected around each of the three stages.

Dog police and forensic identification are in operation and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of this attempted murder with a firearm.

No suspects have been arrested so far.
