Attempted murder: woman shot dead in Rivière-des-Prairies –

A 31-year-old woman was shot in her vehicle in the Rivière-des-Prairies district of Montreal on Saturday night.

At around 4:15 a.m. Sunday, a call was received to 911 reporting that a person had been shot at the intersection of Jean-Rainaud and Jean-Jalbot avenues.

According to the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), she was reportedly struck by at least one projectile in the upper body.

The victim managed to seek refuge in a shelter before being transported to a hospital.

“We would not fear for the life of the victim, who is also known to the police,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, spokeswoman for the SPVM.

The vehicle involved in the shooting is registered in Ontario, authorities have determined.

Investigators and forensic identification officers will be on site to analyze the crime scene and understand the circumstances of this attempted murder. The SPVM also called the Canine Unit to find additional leads.

To date there have been no arrests in this case. The investigation is ongoing.
