An altercation between two subway users who sprayed each other with cayenne pepper at the Atwater station led to the evacuation of several subway stations Sunday night.

The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed that it intervened after the incident, but the two suspects were no longer at the scene when officers arrived. No arrests were made at this time.

Surveillance camera recordings are being reviewed to trace them, SPVM spokeswoman Caroline Chèvrefils said.

This incident also caused the disruption of service for just over half an hour on the orange line between Berri-UQAM and Snowdon stations and on the green line between Berri-UQAM and Angrignon stations, and the evacuation of several stations.

“It is necessary to interrupt the service on the neighboring sections and to evacuate several stations within a certain radius of the incident to allow the emergency ventilation of the tunnels and stations according to our protocols in force,” the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) had said. , by email.

Other incidents

This is at least the third such incident on the Montreal subway since the beginning of the year.

In early January, two separate events occurred on the same day, including the presence of irritating gases that forced entire lines to be shut down and passengers to be evacuated.
