[AUDIO] Femicide in Brownsburg-Chatham: A friend made a harrowing call to 911 –

In a panic, a friend of the 62-year-old woman who was allegedly killed in cold blood by her neighbor in Brownsburg-Chatham three years ago called 911 bloodcurdling, just a few minutes after arriving at the crime scene.

“This is one of my friends. And then the lady was pulled,” said Evelyne Gagné, friend of victim Bonnie-Lyn Finnigan, breathlessly to the emergency services dispatcher.

“What happened?” We can then hear the dispatcher asking him on the tape played this morning during the jury trial of Howard Charles Kirby, currently taking place at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse.

“I don’t know. The other lady who had just left heard a shot, the friend continued. And when she arrived. She saw her lying on the ground [la victime]. But I don’t see any weapons anywhere! »

By pure coincidence, a few seconds earlier, this friend had entered the parking lot at 101 Edina Road where the drama had just unfolded.

According to the prosecution’s theory, the defendant killed Ms. Finnigan to get rid of the woman he had a grudge against. He even tried to cover up his crime.

“Or he was prepared to pay the price … when he did it,” qualified Crown prosecutor Steve D. Fontaine at the start of the trial.

Filmed

Yesterday, a crime scene technician came to court and claimed he was able to observe the crime from surveillance camera footage at the victim’s home.

It has already been admitted that Ms Finnigan was hit by a single shot in the back.

On Tuesday, one of her longtime friends, Micheline Laurin, testified about the gunshot she heard as she arrived in the car at Ms. Finnigan’s home.

When she then pulled into her parking space, she saw the victim lying on the ground.

Since she did not have her cell phone with her, the 68-year-old lady allegedly attempted to approach the immediate neighbor she had seen on her property, Kirby, and ask him if he could call 911. He would have reacted by looking at her with his eyes.

On the same day

At that moment, Ms. Gagné appeared in the parking lot accompanied by her son and the authorities were alerted.

“We need an ambulance… to 101 Édina, because there is a woman lying on the ground and we heard a shot,” Jean-Marc Lamarche initially demanded, before his mother took the device from his hands.

When police arrived, a witness not far from the scene quickly identified the potential suspect as Kirby, a Sûreté du Québec official said yesterday and this morning.

Kirby was arrested later that same day.

The process takes all day.
