Butler did not appear in 2021's “Dune,” although he has a major role in “Dune: Part Two,” which hits theaters March 1.
The Oscar-winning actor plays Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the youngest nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard), ruler of House Harkonnen.
Feyd-Rautha is considered the intended successor to House Harkonnen and the younger brother of Glossu Rabban Harkonnen (Dave Bautista).
Timothee Chalamet returns from Dune as Paul Atreides, who eventually meets Chani (Zendaya) – a Fremen woman he has inexplicably seen in vivid visions.
He allies himself with Chani and her Fremen people to take revenge on those who destroyed his family.
Also returning from the first Dune are Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Paul's mentor, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Paul's mother, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar, leader of the Fremen people.
In addition to Butler, other new additions include Christopher Walken as Shaddam IV, the supreme ruler of the known universe, Lea Seydoux as Lady Margot Fendring, a close friend of Shaddam, and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, the ruler's daughter.
The first film covered the first half of Frank Herbert's 1965 epic novel, while Dune: Part Two covered the second half.

Butler can currently be seen in the Apple TV Plus miniseries Masters of the Air, where he plays Major Gale “Buck” Cleven.
He will also play Danny Ryan in a 2022 film adaptation of Don Winslow's novel City on Fire, which is in pre-production.
This novel is the first part of a trilogy following “City of Dreams” from 2023 and the author's last novel, “City in Ruins”, which will be published in 2024.
Butler will also produce this film – his first as a producer – and it is believed he will reprise the role in what Sony is likely hoping will be a trilogy of films.
