Agonizing moment Australian Idol contestant, 19, refuses to go after butchering Sam Smith ballad during car crash audition: ‘You’ve got to go’
The Australian Idol reboot premiered on Monday night and judges were stunned after an auditioner mangled a hit and then refused to take their feedback.
Kyle Sandilands, 51, told Imogen Ledell, 19, bluntly, that he was not impressed with her performance of Sam Smith’s ballad Lay Me Down.
“The vocals aren’t great at all. You must know that’s pretty unfortunate. Not good,’ he told her.

However, Imogen told Kyle his criticism was just his “opinion” and asked to hear what fellow judges Harry Connick Jr., Meghan Trainor and Amy Shark thought.
Unfortunately, Harry agreed with Kyle.
“I want to be honest with you, singing is not for you. Making a living as a singer is not in your future,” he said.
Still refusing to take their feedback, Imogen insisted on being given a second chance to impress the judges, even attempting to sing in French.

This prompted the four judges to yell “no” in unison as a shaken Imogen left the stage, with Amy admitting the whole ordeal was “scary”.
It comes after Kyle revealed the lid on his “feud” with Australian Idol judge Harry Connick Jr.
Speaking to Sunrise on Monday ahead of the show’s premiere, Sandilands claimed the American singer made it clear he wasn’t a fan of his to begin with.
‘He does not like me. Not that I care. I liked Harry – before I met him,” the KIIS FM shock jock told hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch.

“He’s quite a nice guy, but you know… you can tell someone doesn’t like you. You can’t help but think, “Oh?”
Sandilands speculated Connick Jr didn’t like him before they even met, telling the Sunrise hosts: “Not that I’d be everyone’s cup of tea, but maybe he Googled a few things [about me].’
“You have to go to page 16 to find something nice. So he probably did what we all do – he googled a bit and said, ‘This guy’s not for me.’
Australian Idol continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Seven
