Australian Open: Diallo defeats Goffin

Despite his willingness to fight, Gabriel Diallo had to admit defeat to the Belgian David Goffin in three sets 3:6, 6:3 and 6:2 in the final qualifying round for the Australian Open on Thursday evening.

Had he won, the Canadian would have reached the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his young career. Diallo never gave up and was particularly skilled in the first round, which he actually won.

He saved all three break points in the first set and also recorded six of his 11 aces of the game.

However, things got really complicated after that. In the third set, he won only 18% of his second serve attempts. In the first two rounds he achieved an efficiency of 42% and 29% respectively.

Across the match, he won 67% of his first serve points, compared to 79% for his opponent, also ranked 107th in the ATP rankings.

Diallo also committed 37 indirect fouls, 11 more than Goffin.
