The 2024 season premiere of Married At First Sight may have overwhelmed the competition in the ratings war on Monday night.
But not all viewers were happy with the return of Australia's most controversial television event.
In the very first episode, fans watched in shock as Tim's best man gave an X-rated speech at his wedding, before Sara walked away from her TV husband on their honeymoon.
Following the blockbuster episode, critics on social media criticized Channel Nine for airing controversial storylines this year. Some even called for the show to be canceled.
“I don't want to see any of it, so I'm not watching it. 'I can't wait for the day this show is canceled!' wrote one user on Facebook.

Despite the backlash, “Married At First Sight” emerged as the clear winner in Monday night's ratings battle.
The Nine hit dominated the night, beating Seven's Australian Idol debut and Ten's two-hour premiere of Australian Survivor with a whopping 1.252 million viewers nationwide.
