The FIA has released the final classification of results for the Austrian Grand Prix after a series of retrospective penalties were imposed for track limit violations. Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton are two of the drivers downgraded in the new standings, while Lando Norris moved up to fourth place while Fernando Alonso and George Russell also climbed the results.
The new standings were released after the FIA imposed penalties on eight drivers after completing the race at the Red Bull Ring, which was won by a dominant Max Verstappen, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez in second Third place and
Aston Martin protested the provisional classification shortly after the 71-lap duel in Austria, where several other drivers had already been penalized for violating the track boundary.

An accompanying note from the stewards at the time explained that the panel “after receiving the protest became aware of the existence of a number of laps erased (due to exceeding track limits) and asked that it be raced for control to carry out a reconciliation.” of all deleted laps with penalties imposed.”
Later, the race stewards upheld Aston Martin’s protest, saying that there would be additional penalties for exceeding the track limit for the final standings.
This has now been leaked by the FIA and Sainz, Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, Esteban Ocon, Logan Sargeant, Nyck de Vries and Yuki Tsunoda have all been hit with further penalties.
The new results see Sainz drop from P4 to P6 while Norris moves up to P4 and Fernando Alonso to P5. Hamilton falls from P7 to P8 while teammate George Russell moves up to P7.

Meanwhile, Gasly falls down one place to P10 while Lance Stroll moves up to P9 and Ocon falls from P12 to P14. Albon and Sargeant keep their respective places P11 and P13.
AlphaTauri’s De Vries falls from P15 to P17 while his teammate Tsunoda falls from P18 to P19.
According to the stewards, the retrospective penalties were imposed as follows:
For four violations, a time penalty of five seconds; for five violations a time penalty of 10 seconds.
Then, due to the excessive number of violations, a “reset” was allowed. The violation count begins again. After four more violations, a time penalty of five seconds will be imposed; after five a 10-second time penalty.
The stewards also added that they “very strongly recommend” finding a solution to the track restrictions at the Spielberg circuit.
After the full race, the following penalties will apply:
- Carlos Sainz – 10 second time penalty
- Lewis Hamilton – 10 second time penalty
- Pierre Gasly – 10 second penalty
- Alex Albon – 10 second penalty
- Esteban Ocon – 5 second penalty
- Esteban Ocon – 10 second penalty
- Esteban Ocon – 5 second penalty
- Esteban Ocon – 10 second time penalty (30 seconds total for Ocon)
- Logan Sargeant – 10 second time penalty
- Nyck de Vries – 10 second penalty
- Nyck de Vries – 5 second time penalty (15 seconds total for De Vries)
- Yuki Tsunoda – 5 second penalty

DNF: Nico Hulkenberg
