“To me, that’s not what the novel is about. So I saw it as a kind of oriented reading that perhaps revealed an identification with the novel. Perhaps Mr. Legault wanted to tell us that he felt like a scapegoat for the housing crisis; what it’s not for me He is responsible,” says Kevin Lambert.
The novel tells the story of an international architect whose public project in Montreal is accused of accelerating the gentrification of neighborhoods.
The author believes that the main purpose of his book is to describe a reality and to put yourself in the shoes of the architect in order to understand how she experiences this situation.
For Mr. Lambert, the Prime Minister of Quebec presented a simplified and reductive analysis of the novel.
However, François Legault and his team are directly responsible for gentrification, says the author.
“Bill 31 is full of elements that favor landlords and hurt tenants, but the most obvious is blocking lease assignments. It is recognized by all experts as one of the few levers we have to prevent extreme rent increases,” he announces.
