The man was traveling with another winter sports enthusiast in Pflersch when he was captured and buried by an avalanche 260 meters wide and 80 meters long. His companion was dragged about 150 meters but remained on the surface.
The 27-year-old Trentino initially managed to be dug out by his companion and resuscitated by the mountain rescue team. . He was then taken to Bolzano hospital with serious injuries. But he died there a little later, South Tyrolean media reported.
