The elaborate, heavy costumes worn in the images represent the time period in which the series is set: 99AG (“post-genocide”), at the end of a hundred-year war, according to Screen Rant.
The world of Avatar is a fantasy world inspired primarily by East Asian cultures, including China, Japan, and Tibet, as well as some Inuit, Polynesian, Aztec, and South Asian influences.
According to Ranker, the Air Nomads from which Aang is descended are based on monks from the East, with Aang's clothing similar to those traditionally worn by Shaolin monks.
The clothing worn by the characters represents their nation by wearing colors that symbolize their native element: Air Nomads dress in orange and yellow, while the Water Tribe people wear blue, purple, and white clothing.
Those from the Earth Kingdom dress in brown, yellow, and green clothing, while the Fire Nation people wear various shades of black, red, brown, black, pink, and gold.

Over the summer, showrunner Albert Kim penned a statement released on Netflix explaining why he was excited about the adaptation of the iconic animated series.
He wrote: “A live-action version can not only faithfully reproduce what was done in the animation, it can also add a rich new visual dimension to a fantastic world.” “We will be able to bend on to see in a real and visceral way that we have never seen before.”
In April 2023, it was announced that an animated film “Avatar: The Last Airbender” would be released on October 10, 2025.
A live-action film of the original animated series was previously released in theaters in 2010 – but was widely panned by both critics and fans, with several publications calling it “one of the worst films of all time.”
